Hotel America, #SIMPLYDIFFERENT!

"El Merican", alias Domenico Giovannini, at age 20 set off from the quarries of San Mauro to go explore the new world; He began working in the mines of Wyoming and a few years later he returned to Trento to open his Hotel, where travellers could feel welcomed as if they were at home.

An enthusiasm carried through generations, from Domenico, the management of Hotel America passed on to his children: Annamaria, Elda, Nella, Franco and Claudia, and from them onto the third generation with Maria Teresa Lanzinger. Now it is the fourth generation stepping in onto the Hotel America stage!

Domenico was joined in the New World, by his brother Giovanni, who ended up staying in Wyoming and marrying the sister of Domenico's wife Theresa. As it happens he set-up a Hotel too; the Outlaw Inn, but that's another story ...
Hotel America, which has always overlooked the historic centre of the beautiful Trento, has so many stories to tell: the temporary change of name to "Hotel in the Sun" at the time of fascism, its bombing in 1945, when it was completely destroyed by an allied bomb and then when the river Adige overflowed in '66, forcing the "navigation" by boat of Via Torre Verde, with the Hotel submerged up to the first floor.

But there have been mainly good times, of growth, in which the America has expanded, buying little by little the spaces that surround it, increasing to a total of 68 rooms plus the mini apartments, the bar and the restaurant which had been consistently renovated, the bright veranda and finally, the final great success: the new Hall.

Then, as families think big, so was born in 2001 in Barcelona the hotel's Spanish cousin, "Hotel America - New Millennium", run by the daughter of Franco Giovannini, Elena and by Jose Maria.

Who knows what "El Merican" would say if he could see all of this: how his dream, his drive to see the world, his coming back, and his family have evolved and how the Hotel America has come to celebrate its first 90 years in 2013!
